Tis the Season in Chicago

Now that the ‘Chicago winter weather’ has returned, it is time to grab that parka and get outside! There are a lot of things going on in the city this time of year. Here are a few recommendations to explore.

Christmas Tree

This year marks a fun change in a long lasting Chicago tradition. The 102nd Christmas Tree Ceremony in Chicago, will for the first time be held in Millennium Park! This seasons tree is from Northlake, Illinois, and is huge. While you are taking in the Christmas tree lights, try out Millennium Parks ice skating in front of ‘The Bean’ (Cloud Gate) statue. If you are feeling hungry after, check out the Park Grill, located right under ‘The Bean’, which is next to where you pick up your ice skates.

Best Hot Chocolate

In the mood for something sweeter? Head to Mindy’s Hot Chocolate in Wicker Park. Basically they have chocolate everything, from cakes to drinks to cookies. Mindy’s also has a full menu incase you want lunch after dessert.

Holiday Lights & Markets

Other things to stroll around and peruse are the Michigan Ave Lights, Macy’s decorated windows as well as the Bloomingdales indoor Christmas tree, and the famous Christkindlmarket Chicago, a German inspired outdoor Christmas market, going on in Daley Plaza.

Illuminations, Morton Arboretum, Lisle, Illinois

The Chicago suburbs also have much to offer in terms of holiday celebrations and house decorations. Nothing can compare, however, to Illuminations at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle. This light show, on an epic scale, will impress anyone. You are lead on a walk around Arboretum lake and through the winding wooded paths, taking in all the creative light shows and displays. Make sure to purchase tickets in advance as they sell out ahead of time.

Have a great holiday season everyone!
